Best Things to Do In Memphis Over the Weekend

Music, fun, and Elvis Presley (maybe not in that order) are the things that people associate Memphis, Tennessee with. Yet, you might be looking around for something to do this weekend with a blank calendar! If you want to go out with friends or maybe you want to impress a date, some of these ideas could help you cover the fun and music part for a day out on the town. Here are 5 of our top activities that you could explore in Memphis in the coming weeks so you’re not stuck at home staring at the wall!

  1. Bus Tour With Live Music + Sun Studio or Stax Museum

Memphis is one of the more walkable cities in America. A lot of the cool landmarks are relatively close by, and the streets are closed off for tourists in most cases. However, if the sun’s too hot and trying to deal with parking on every corner is not your cup of tea, this bus tour with the added twist of live music might just be your way to relax this weekend. You’ll hit up all of the good spots while someone’s up there singing country and blues. If you want to grab tickets to the bus tour, plus access to Sun Studio or the Stax Museum to complement your day, you can do so through the link below!

  1. Take a Walk Through the Beale Street Entertainment District

Now, if you don’t mind the walk and you want to go at your own pace, enjoying the different things Beale Street has to offer could be your ideal weekend plan. You can pop in to get some beers or some barbecue at any point. The walk also has some great photo ops that seem touristy and silly, but if you’re on a date, they could turn out to be great memories made. If you wander a little further out and you want to head to the Rock and Soul Museum, we’ll leave a link for tickets to that attraction!

  1. The Best Idea for Foodies

There are some great places to eat here in Memphis! Plus, some of them have terraces overlooking the river. It could make for a perfect date night idea. However, if you’re one of those couples or groups of friends who’ve been around the block out here and know most of these spots, maybe a food tour could be just what you need to spice things up. This particular tour offers 7 different tastings around a variety of spots in the city. The only thing we want to warn you about is that you’re going to need some extra cash on hand for beer! Drinks are not included in the fee.

  1. Catch a Bluegrass Show at the Orpheum Theatre

One of the coolest things about Memphis, besides the Elvis legacy, is that there’s usually a performer playing on the weekend at the Orpheum Theatre or even the FedEx Forum that’s going to keep the bluegrass roots alive. Can you find a great show at a bar around town on any given day? Sure, but they’re not Vince Gill! He’s going to be in town on August 29th and the 30th. This might be your “One More Last Chance” to rekindle the spark. We found a deal with tickets starting at $85. You can claim yours today!

  1. Take Advantage of the Theater Scene

Memphis has one of the healthiest theater scenes in the country. Yet, we get the sense that a lot of locals don’t take full advantage of it. As the summer winds down, you’re going to be able to enjoy Mean Girls’ theater version! That’s a fun night on the town for sure. If you feel you won’t be able to sit with The Plastics, not to worry; The Music Man is a fun experience as well that’s sure to leave you waltzing out of the theater when the night’s over!
