When the Red Clay Strays announced their “Get Right Tour,” not even the biggest fans of the band could’ve guessed just how massive these guys would get throughout the road trip. They have an ability to cross over to different genres, and that helps attract fans from various walks of life, not just the average regular at a country music bar.
Knowing this, don’t be surprised if you can’t count everyone at the Fox Theater in Detroit by pointing at the cowboy hats in the crowd. The new faces of country music are going to have to 2 night stop in the Motor City. You can choose to be at either the Saturday, October 4th, performance or the one on Sunday, October 5th. The Red Clay Strays in a Theater Setting
This is a great chance to experience the versatility of a band like the Red Clay Strays. It’s one thing to play at an open venue with everyone in the crowd on their feet, slow dancing. It’s another to have to get an audience on its feet just to hear you play. We cheated a little bit, and don’t recommend you do the same because you’re going to fall into plenty of spoilers, but “Doin’ Time,” “Ramblin’” and “Stone’s Throw” are three of the songs they usually sing to set the tone for the night. They might want to kick off with that long, almost monologue intro to “Stone’s Throw” in Detroit. That could actually quiet down the crowd and build an almost old-school saloon-like atmosphere within the theater.
An educated guess might lead you to believe that this is by design. The Red Clay Strays are looking to maybe even find that “quiet sense” in the theater to sing some of the tracks that feature what’s now become part of Brandon Coleman’s iconic persona. Those almost mumbling intros that give you a preview of the deep voice that has amazing range and that he’s going to use a little later in the song. Leaning into that part of their music library might be smart for these theater shows over the open-air venues, where crowds are going for more of the “happy” vibe.
Finding the Right Seats Inside the Fox Theater
Try to look for spots toward the middle with a broad view of the show. There is a pit area where you can kind of get the best of both worlds. It’s a standing room that’s going to afford you enough space to slow dance. However, this type of show could be just as enjoyable from one of the upper levels with a stiff drink in hand. Those are just the kind of vibes that the Red Clay Strays give off. A lot of these tracks are better suited for the solo late nights than they are for the family BBQ.
